This Roald Dahl work, published in 1988, tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, a gifted girl forced to put up with a crude, distant father and mother. Worse, Agatha Trunchbull, the evil principal at Matilda’s school, who is a cruel authoritarian who loathes children and is a terrifyingly strict bully. Matilda befriends her school teacher, Miss Honey. Miss Honey soon realizes Matilda’s talents, but is later amazed to see the full extent of Matilda’s powers. However, when Matilda realizes she has the power of telekinesis, she begins to defend her friends from Trunchbull’s wrath and fight back against her unkind parents.

The main conflict, is that most of the adults are cruel to the children throughout the story. This is solved in the end when the Wormwoods allow Matilda to live with Miss Honey, and Miss Trunchbull leaves after her ”encounter” with her brother Magnus.

Mr Wormwood was based on a real-life character from Roald Dahl’s hometown of Great Missenden, England.

Character Breakdown

BRAVO and Thank you Fine Arts Students for an amazing three days of auditions for FHS 52^nd Musical 2020 – Roald Dahl’s – MATILDA, THE MUSICAL!

Students went through a rigorous audition process that included:  A memorized monologue, several songs from Matilda for all vocal ranges and a great choreographed dance audition.

All students were given several days to learn the material and rehearse on their own.

The directors are once again impressed with our talented Fine Arts Students.

The directors met on Friday afternoon.

They have determined that at this time there are no further need for callbacks at this time.

Callbacks were scheduled for next week.

In the next few days the directors reserve the right to call back certain roles.  If that happens they will address those students personally.  However this is unlikely.  The goal of the FHS director team is to make sure each student is cast in the most appropriate manner.

Our thanks to our students for an outstanding effort.  Bravo!  We take casting very seriously.
