The Friendswood Independent School District Education Foundation (FEF) awarded two Legacy Grants on Monday, April 13, 2026, recognizing innovative, large-scale projects that enhance hands-on learning and real-world experiences for students across Friendswood ISD (FISD).
Legacy Grants, funded by FEF, support transformative projects of $7,500 or more that create long-term, sustainable impact across campuses. This year’s awarded grants continue FEF’s commitment to equipping students with meaningful, engaging opportunities that connect classroom learning to real-world applications.
One of the awarded Legacy Grants, Bloom & Bites, will fund the purchase of a shared-use vehicle to support both the Floral Design and Culinary Arts programs at Friendswood High School (FHS). This vehicle will allow students to transport floral arrangements, catered meals, and student-produced products for school events, district functions, and community partnerships, providing real-world experience in event support, customer service, and business operations. The addition of a dedicated vehicle will also expand the programs’ ability to operate student-run services, including catering and the FHS coffee bar, with the potential to grow into a mobile food and beverage unit. This investment strengthens career readiness by giving students hands-on experience in hospitality, entrepreneurship, and logistics while increasing the programs’ visibility and impact across the community.
The second awarded Legacy Grant, From Paws to Purpose: The Mr. Graham CommUNITY Initiative, will support the professional training of a future facility dog who will serve students across FISD. Through a structured, multi-phase training program, this pup will be prepared to provide emotional support that helps students regulate, engage, and feel connected in the school environment. FISD Transition Center students will take an active leadership role in his care and campus visits, gaining real-world vocational, communication, and public speaking skills. In collaboration with the high school CTE Veterinary Medicine program, students will work together in structured animal care routines, creating meaningful opportunities for teamwork, leadership, and inclusion. As this emotional support dog visits campuses districtwide, the initiative will promote a culture of belonging and disability awareness through authentic, shared experiences.
