FHS’ 53rd Musical – Matilda received 13 Tommy Tune Nominations from Theatre Under the Stars 2020 Tommy Tune Awards.

• Best Actor – (2) Eric Jensen (won Best Actor for his role of Agatha Trunchbull) and Thomas TR Massey
• Best Featured Performer – Taylor Campbell

The winners will be announced via a specially-created video on the Tommy Tune Awards Facebook page and the TUTS YouTube channel on April 28 at 7:30pm.

Sunday, March 22 the Tommy Tune Nominations for 2020 were announced.

The Friendswood High School musical Matilda has received thirteen nominations for the 2020 Tommy Tune Awards sponsored by Theatre Under the Stars in Houston (TUTS).

The FHS musical is nominated for best musical, best ensemble, best lighting design, best scenic design, best stage crew execution, best orchestra, best musical direction, best choreography and best direction. A best actress nomination was given to senior Taylor Greny, and best actor nominations were given to seniors Eric Jensen and Thomas Massey. Senior Taylor Campbell received a nomination for best featured performer.

Director Kathy Powdrell said she and her students conducted a virtual watch-party as the nominations came in as a way to maintain social distancing while also celebrating together.

“It was crazy for a few minutes, but it was so good to see the kids,” Powdrell said. “This cast changes my life everyday. I miss them right now but we will be together soon. I am so honored to work with such amazing colleagues and students. Heartfelt thanks to all of them. Bravo all.”
