Friendswood ISD Fine Arts students had the opportunity to showcase their talents on a statewide stage with a performance of Rooted in Resilience at the Texas Association of School Boards event.

The performance brought FISD students before school board members and education leaders from across Texas, highlighting the talent, creativity and collaboration found throughout the district’s Fine Arts programs.

The occasion held additional significance for Friendswood ISD as Board of Trustees President Tony Hopkins currently serves as President of TASB. Having FISD students take the stage during Hopkins’ year of leadership at the state level made the experience an especially proud moment for the district and community.

Rooted in Resilience was written by Melissa Smith, whose creativity and vision helped bring the production to life. Smith, alongside Friendswood ISD Fine Arts directors and staff, worked with students through countless hours of planning, preparation and rehearsals to create the final production.

At the heart of the performance were the students themselves. From those who took the stage to those who contributed behind the scenes, students across Friendswood ISD Fine Arts came together to represent their schools, programs and community before an audience from across the state.

“This was such a special opportunity for our students and our district,” Friendswood ISD Executive Director of Communications Lauren Traina said. “To watch our students take the stage and share their talents with education leaders from across Texas was an incredibly proud moment. They represented Friendswood ISD beautifully, and it was exciting to see others experience what makes our Fine Arts programs so special.”

The performance was more than an opportunity to entertain. It was a chance to share the story of Friendswood ISD through the arts and celebrate the students and educators who make its Fine Arts programs thrive.

For Friendswood ISD, it was a proud day to see the talent of its students take center stage and give education leaders from across Texas a glimpse of what makes Friendswood Fine Arts so special.
